Delta Gamma Fraternity
My pledge class sisters and I, Fall 2010
Joining the sisterhood of Delta Gamma has been the absolute best decision I have made since coming to LSU. The friends I have made here will be in my life for years to come, and more importantly, has taught me the value of being in an organization with a deeper meaning than parties and wearing your letters.
Delta Gamma has offered me many opportunities to get involved and hone my leadership and communication skills. My freshman year, I was chosen to serve as the Director of University Relations, which required me to keep the chapter members up to date on campus wide events and coordinate chapter members into getting involved in other organizations around LSU. My responsibilities included speaking at each chapter meeting about campus wide events, going to New Member meetings to inform them of other organizations around campus, and coordinate matching the New Members with Active Members with common interests, majors, etc.

Service for Sight

Delta Gamma's national philanthropy is Service for Sight, where we provide service and funding to those who are visually impaired. Locally, we work with the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired. We have many events with them such as Halloween Dances, Karaoke Nights, and Easter Egg Hunts.
My favorite event we have for the kids of LSVI is Fan Day. We host the LSVI kids at the Delta Gamma house in the spring along with LSU athletes who come to interact with the kids; it's so fun, and I'm just as starstruck as the LSVI kids to see the athletes.
These activities along with providing transportation and serving as a running guide to a couple of visually impaired Baton Rouge residents, and spending time with elderly citizens through the "Golden Anchor Program" scratch the surface of the service opportunities that I have been involved in while being a member in Delta Gamma. Donating time and resources to other fraternity and sorority philanthropies have been equally as rewarding.

DG Political Correspondents
During the fall semester of my senior year, Director of Scholarship Lindsey Bennett asked fellow Political Communication senior Lauren Brink and myself to report to the chapter non-biased political reports about registering to vote, presidential debates, and general facts about being involved in the political process.
Since it was election season, we had a lot to talk about at weekly chapter meetings. We presented a quiz with ten questions about "Things Every Citizen Should Know" and directed members to online and local resources to register to vote and how to apply for an absentee ballot. In addition, we had a workshop covering the nine Louisiana constitutional amendments up for vote, as well as show videos and answered questions about different fiscal and social issues that are prevalent in presidential candidates' platforms.
It was exciting to get such a great response from the chapter members, and so many of them sent us pictures or told us they registered to vote or actually casted their vote on Election Day. During Homecoming week, we had a special event called "Pomping with the Presidents." This allowed chapter members to watch election results at the house while decorating for Homecoming. We had a poll of who would win the election, red, white and blue decorations, and American History trivia as well.
